ANCHORAGE, Alaska-- Tok residents say numerous people witnessed a fireball shoot across the sky and heard a sonic boom Monday afternoon.

Some say they saw pieces falling off as the object descended.

The acting administrator for the FAA's Alaska region said the agency has no official information on the incident.

A researcher from UAF said it could have been a meteor, but the sonic boom-type sound is not typical.
