A science writer at the Geophysical Institute at the University of Alaska Fairbanks published an article late September about a dinosaur that once roamed in the Denali Park area.
In an article, Ned Rozell writes about David Tomeo, who was exploring a creek-bed in the park when came upon an impression in the mud.
Tomeo consulted with a Tony Fiorillo, a dinosaur hunter in Dallas, and the two determined that the track looked like a “therizinosaurs.”
That’s a tall, feathered, meat-eating dinosaur with sickle-like claws.
Fiorillo recently co-authored a paper on the first record of the dinosaur in Alaska.
“Therizinosaurs are totally weird,” Fiorillo said. “These guys are unlike any predatory dinosaur you’ve ever seen. From head to feet, they are different.”
Dinosaur experts say this particular one has been recorded in Mongolia.
Scientists believe it probably used the Bering Land bridge to make it to Alaska, some 70 million years ago.
