Anchorage - Anchorage-area salmon fishing is slow, with a few fish showing up in Ship Creek here and there. The Department of Fish and Game says it's still worth your time to go fish before and after work.
Several emergency orders are in place preventing the retention of rainbow trout on Campbell and Chester creeeks, including Westchester and Eastchester lagoons. And you are not allowed to use bait in the Chester Creek drainage.
Lake fishing is good with catchable fish stocked in Jewel, Sand, Delong adn Campbell Point lakes.
Kenai Peninsula -
Department of Fish and Game says the lower portions of the Anchor River, Deep Creek and Stariski are open to sport fishing except for king salmon. They would like to remind you that king salmon are not to be removed from the waterand must be released immediately.
The Ninilchik River is open to sport fishing, including the harvest of hatchery king salmon, though the fishing for hatchery fish has been slow, according to the Department of Fish and Game.
Fishing for Dolly Varden adn pink salmon in Kenai streams is slow.
Fishing for late-run kings on the Kenai and Kasilof rivers has been fair and is expted to improve as July progresses.
Fishing for sockey on the Russian River is currently rated slow and will likely pick up during the second run toward the end of July.
Trout fishing is excellent on the Kenai River as water conditions have cleared.
Lake fishing is rated as excellent right now on Kenai Peninsula lakes.
Palmer/Mat-Su Valley
King salmon fishing on the Deshka is reportedly good, while the fishing at the Eklutna Trailrace has been slow, though kings are being caught.
Fishing for kings at Lake Creek and Talachulitna River should be fair this week, according to fish and game, with a few red salmon being reported at Larson Creek.
Fishing for Rainbows on Parks Highway streams from Willow Creek towards the north is rated as excellent, with low water levels and clear streams.
Lake fishing has been excellent.
Salt Water -
Halibut fishing is good out of Homer and several other souther Kenai locations, though there are reports of flabby or "mushy" fish that remain so after cooking, according to the Department of Fish and Game. They recommend letting fish that feel flabby go and moving to another location.
Snagging is allowed in Kachemak Bay east of a line from Anchor Point to Point Pogibshi until Dec. 31 except in Nick Dudiak Fishing Lagoon, according to the Department of Fish and Game.
Trolling for kings has been good near Whisky Gulch and slow in Halibut Cove Lagoon and Seldovia.
Good clamming tides are expected July 12-18, according to fish and game.
Halibut fishing is reportedly good out of Resurrection Bay with reports of 100-pound fish on the docks daily.
Fishing for halibut, lincod and rockfish out of Whittier and around Prince William Sound is good, with 100-pound fish showing up regularly.
Shrimping has been good with deeper sets, around 400 feet is recommended, to produce the best catches.
