ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has issued an emergency order closing the waters of its Knik Arm management area, except Fish Creek and Eklutna Tailrace, to coho salmon fishing. The order goes into effect at 12:01 a.m. Saturday.The Thursday order prohibits the retention or possession of silvers, as well as catch-and-release sport fishing. Coho salmon caught while fishing for other species must be released immediately, without being removed from the water.
Bag and possession limits for non-king salmon in the management area, excluding Fish Creek and Eklutna Tailrace, have been changed to three fish 16 inches or longer and 10 fish under 16 inches in length. None of either group may be cohos.
The Fish Creek bag and possession limit for non-kings 16 inches or longer is three fish, no more than two of which may be cohos. The Eklutna Tailrace bag and possession limit is three fish, all of which may be cohos.
Fish Creek and Eklutna Tailrace are both restricted to a bag and possession limit of 10 non-king salmon under 16 inches in length, all of which may be cohos.
