ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
Three men. An iPhone. And a bear cub. They came together at an eddy of the Kenai River and neither one of them will ever be the same again.
The exhausted cub was trapped in the whirlpool and might have drowned, had the men in the boat not come upon him.
They extended the bear a dipnet, which turned out to be a life line.
The bear managed to hold on to the rim of the net, until the men were able to steer him out of the strong current that had trapped him.
Two of the men, a father and son, Michael Polocz and Dustin Klepacki, tell the story in their own words.
