Bodega-Fest |
Saturday’s Bodega-Fest tasting event and fundraiser at Kincaid Park promises to be a beer enthusiast’s dream come true and it’s a dream that has been in the making for over a year.
Pamela Hatzis, Bodega-Fest organizer, says that since she has owned and operated the La Bodega craft beer and wine store in the University Mall, the store patrons have been suggesting she organize a festival. “But it never felt like the right time.”
Now the time has come and Hatzis and co-organizer Sonya Wellman aren’t cutting any corners.
The event will include beers, meads and ciders from all over Alaska, the Pacific Northwest and beyond. Local libation makers include Kenai River Brewing Co., Celestial Meads and Bear Creek Winery, just to name a few.
Beyond just a place to try some new drinks, Hatzis expects the event to be a community event. “We want people to be able to talk about what they’re trying, talk to the company reps, see a lot of friends and meet a lot of nice new people.”
Proceeds from the event will go to support the Alaska Conservation Alliance, which is an umbrella group made up of over 40 organizations with a combined membership of over 38,000 Alaskans working to keep the states environment healthy.
“You can come and have one sample and just dance your heart out, or you can turn it into a real connoisseur event. Just come spend time with your friends and learn about the conservation alliance,” Hatzis said.
There will be live music throughout the event from bands such as, Bottle Caps for Dollars and Big Fat Buddha, and a performance from Pulse Dance Company.
Don’t worry about missing dinner; there will be food vendors at the fest. Fill up on barbecue from Smokehouse BBQ, gourmet French fries from The Potato and tacos from the Bear Tooth Grill.
Tickets are $25 and include 12 tasting tickets and a commemorative glass. The fest is 21 and over, no children or dogs will be admitted into the event.
This is an outdoor event , and Hatzis advises sensible shoes for walking around on the grass and a wind-proof jacket.
