ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
The state health department is trying to raise awareness of obesity in Alaska.
The department, along with Providence Health & Services Alaska, is hosting a free screening of part of the HBO documentary film series "The Weight of the Nation: Children in Crisis" on Wednesday.
The state's chief medical officer and CEO of Providence Alaska Medical Center plan to discuss obesity in Alaska before the screening begins.
This is part of an effort to raise awareness both about obesity in Alaska and about ways to prevent and address the problem.
The department, in a release, says about three in 10 Alaska children are overweight or obese and about two of every three adults weigh too much.
When: Wednesday, May 23, 2012, 12 – 1 p.m.
