European E. coli outbreak caused by toxic new strain

An unusually virulent strain of E. coli is causing a deadly outbreak of food-borne illness in Europe. The bacterium appears to be a previously unknown strain, global health officials said June 2. The new strain has sickened more than 1,800 people.
