( Irfan Khan / Los Angeles Times ) Cases of pertussis, aka whooping cough, have risen across the country, and doctors are urging adolescents -- and adults -- to get a booster shot. The shot is seen as especially critical as kids return to the germ-sharing school environment. Infants can't be fully protected against the easily spread disease, and an illness that might simply amount to an annoying and lingering cough in adults can kill an infant. |
