It's been more than 5 weeks since James Koenig said he last saw daughter.
Police say the investigation continues for 18-year-old Samantha Koenig, who disappeared from a Midtown coffee stand on February 1. Thursday afternoon, Koenig held a press conference, saying he's speaking up to keep Samantha's disappearance in the spotlight.
“All I can do is stay focused on finding Samantha. Take it one day at a time,” said Koenig.
Koenig's life has drastically changed since his daughter’s abduction. He took a leave from his job as a driver to dedicate all his time to finding his daughter.
“I am not working right now, and I cannot go back to work until I get Samantha home, and even after that it's going to be some time so we can get her fixed up and her head right again,” said Koenig.
Koenig talked about people attacking Samantha's character online. He said Samantha is a sweet girl with a beautiful heart, and added although she did have a run in with drugs, that quickly ended.
“Since that day she came to me over a year ago, she’s been clean,” said Koenig.
Anchorage police said detectives, patrol officers, and other law enforcement are all working to solve the case. Sgt. Slav Markiewicz said the facts and evidence suggest she's still alive.
“There are a lot of leads, a lot of public interested, but in the end it will go down to the police work. Talking to people, following up on leads, someone out there has information that will lead us to solve this case,” he said.
