The United States Postal Service issued a new stamp and it will be unveiled at the Alaska Sealife Center today, January 23.

The 86-cent stamp features the Tufted Puffin, whose distinguishing features are the long, yellow tufts of feathers that curve backwards from the tops of its eyes during the summer breeding season.

The unveiling of the stamp will be celebrated in a Date of First Issue ceremony in the Sealife Center's Bear Mountain Conference Room.

It is a special honor for the Center to be hosting the Date of First Issue ceremony. "Only one location in the United States is chosen for the First Day of Issue for each stamp," according to a press release from the Alaska Sealife Center.

The ceremony today takes place during the Center's "FREEzing Winter Wednesdays" program, meaning that general admission is free for all Alaskan residents through February 28.
