ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
Following the abduction of Anchorage teen Samantha Koenig, some women are determined to educate themselves about what they can do to avoid a similar situation. Alaska Training held a free self defense seminar at Anchorage Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu on Sunday afternoon.
Over two dozen women attended the class, which lasted about 4 hours.
Instructors taught women about how to avoid situations that could put them in danger. Attendees also learned how to escape if someone tries to kidnap them.
Koenig's father, James Koenig, and several family friends attended the seminar.
"I've got a 15 year old daughter that I want to know how to protect and her to know how to protect herself," Tina Olson, a Koenig family friend said. "It's not the Anchorage it was when we were growing up."
18-year-old Samantha Koenig was abducted by an armed man from Common Grounds Espresso on February 1st, according to the Anchorage Police Department.
