In Anchorage people shopping at the Dimond Center Saturday also got the chance to bag a new job as the mall hosted its first ever job fair.
Organizers say at a smaller job fair there's the chance to see a lot of options but in a casual setting. Job seekers like Dashaunte Pointer-Rivera and Pedro Vargas were there looking to land their first job.
"I just walked right by it and we thought it would be fun to look for a job," said Pointer-Rivera.
“They’re getting into the job market and it's exciting for them and it's exciting for us to have someone that's so excited to be working," said Dimond Center marketing director Sara Swanson.
The Dimond Center has never hosted a job fair before but organizers say this area has plenty of need for workers with the holiday season just around the corner.
Not all of the businesses participating came from inside the mall. Auto Zone is located across the street but wanted to take part in the event due to the heavy foot traffic they expected to see Saturday in the mall.
"We always want more people we're opening up more store locations so we need a many people as possible," said Auto Zone store manager Almanzo Smith.
Auto Zone says they are looking to hire 200 employees in the next year, as they open 4 new locations in Anchorage and Eagle River.
"Some of the applications I just got I'm going to fill them out immediately and bring them back and see what my options are,” said Pointer-Rivera, “I'm hoping to get an interview and get a job. Finally start making the big bucks."
While many of these jobs are only seasonal, both employers and workers hope they can become something more.
