The Alaska State Troopers released an update on the death investigation of Israel Keyes' suicide.
Keyes, who confessed to the murder of 18-year-old Samantha Koenig and a couple in Vermont, was found dead in his cell on December 2.
Officials have determined that Keyes cut his left wrist using a blade from a disposable shaving razor that had been embedded into a pencil and used some of the bedding material in his cell to strangle himself.
Whether one of both of these injuries primarily contributed to his death has not been determined by the State Medical Examiner.
Officials state that Keyes' suicide occured while he was locked alone in his cell between the hours of 9:30 p.m. December 1st to 5:57 a.m. the following day.
Pages of crumpled, blood-soaked paper with what appeared to be writing on them were recovered from Keyes' cell. They have been given to the FBI, at their request, for processing.
There was no indication of outside criminal involvement. Keyes' next of kin has been notified.
