The giant polar bear at Russian Jack Springs Park has a new name thanks to a couple of young students.
The Anchorage Park Foundation opened a naming contest for kids in kindergarten through 12th grade last October.
Two students from Chester Valley Elementary School won the contest and a plaque will be posted next to the polar bear in the park.
First and third grade sisters Paradise Iona Pearson and Natalya Sailiaga submitted the name “Nola.”
The park opened this summer and a number of other Alaskan themed play structures like a raven, a boat, a small airplane and airport will be included as well.
