Anchorage firefighters responded Wednesday afternoon to an East Anchorage structure fire, with at least one person taken to the hospital.

AFD dispatchers confirmed that units were sent to Building C of the Anchorage Manor House Apartments, on the 4600 block of Reka Drive, after reports of the fire came in at about 4 p.m. The fire was quickly brought under control.

Capt. Jeff McDonald was one of the first responders on the scene.  He said there was extension of the fire to the attic, which he described as, "bothersome" because of the difficulty in reaching it.  "It took a little while to get to," he said, "but the fire was put out real quickly."

At least one person was taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

According to APD spokesperson Dani Myren, traffic on Reka was "shut down" as firefighters respond to the area.

Red Cross of Alaska spokesperson Katie Bender said two volunteers headed to the scene to assist people displaced by the fire.
