ANCHORAGE, Alaska -

Kristina Kurtz, a controller at Anchorage Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON), received a prestigious national award for navigating a pilot to safety in November.

Kurtz received the Archie League Medal of Safety award from the National Air Traffic Controllers Association last week in Atlanta.

She helped talk a general aviation pilot to make a safe landing through white-out conditions at Merrill Field on Nov. 6, 2011.

NATCA recognized her life-saving actions along with 24 years of experience as one of the nation’s 15 most accomplished controllers.

Editor's Note: A NATCA Communications and Public Affairs Specialist said Kurtz worked at TRACON, not Anchorage Air Route Traffic Control Center.
