The state is asking a judge to decide a case over Alaska's still-disputed U.S. Senate race by next week.

A judge in Juneau is taking over the case filed by Republican Joe Miller. A hearing is set for Wednesday afternoon.

Miller contends the state did not follow the law in tallying write-in votes for his rival, Sen. Lisa Murkowski. The state has defended its process, pointing to case law, and Murkowski has declared victory.

Murkowski is seeking to intervene in the case. And attorneys for the state want the judge to decide the case outright unless Miller provides proof to back up claims of fraud, which they call unfounded.
