Gov. Sean Parnell's oil tax plan doesn't achieve his goals of growing Alaska's economy.
So says Kara Moriarty, executive director of the Alaska Oil and Gas Association.
Parnell has proposed a tax structure that is intended to restore balance to a system that he and others, including the industry, see as out of whack. He says the proposal is aimed at making Alaska more competitive and encouraging new production.
Moriarty says her group supports some of the provisions, including a proposed tax break for new oil. But her group has concerns with changes to the tax credit system and considers the plan a tax increase when oil prices are lower.
She says her group is committed to working with Parnell and the Legislature in building a long-term policy for Alaska.
