The Anchorage Assembly appointed a replacement for the vacant west Anchorage seat - last held by Harriet Drummond who was elected to the state House.
Cheryl Frasca, former city budget director, will serve assembly seat 3E after securing six votes by the Assembly. The swearing in of the new member happened immediately after the vote at the Jan. 15 Assembly meeting.
Five other people applied for the position, including contractor Jason Agre, former assembly member and former acting mayor Matt Claman, civic activist Gordon Glaser, retired school teacher David Nees, and longtime outdoor recreation organizer Jerry Walton.
Tim Steele, a former school board member, withdrew his name from the running.
Frasca's term will last only a few months, and must run against other candidates in the April municipal election to serve the assembly for a one-year term.
Editor's Note: Information corrected for Jerry Walton from military veteran to longtime outdoor recreation organizer.
