The Alaska Republican Party named Debbie Brown as its new chair Friday, in the wake of a Thursday meeting in Anchorage that saw chair-elect Russ Millette ousted from his seat.
The ARP’s State Executive Committee says internal charges against Brown, the party's incoming vice-chair, alleging that she mismanaged about $700 in campaign funds in now-defunct District 34 were dropped as unfounded. Former party chair Randy Ruedrich says the decision was made following an executive session that stretched until nearly midnight Thursday.
The move cleared the way for Brown to assume her office Feb. 1 -- and immediately succeed Millette, who was unseated Thursday night for not performing the duties of a chair-elect.
Ruedrich tells the Associated Press that party officials plan to meet Feb. 9 in Juneau to choose a new vice chair. He says Millette also might appeal his ouster.
Ruedrich says three other pending complaints, including one against him, are scheduled to be taken up Saturday.
