Several state lawmakers are heading to Anchorage this weekend to meet with constituents and continue a debate over whether the state should reduce taxes on the oil industry.
The Anchorage Caucus will meet at the Loussac Library at 10:00 am Saturday to hear public testimony on a range of issues, including the budget, oil taxes, and other key legislation this session.
Republicans and Democrats from the House and Senate are expected to be there; so are officials from the Dept. of Transportation, Anchorage School Board, and Mayor Dan Sullivan.
Monday, the House Finance Committee will meet at the Anchorage legislative information office to hear testimony on HB 110, the Governor’s oil tax bill.
The House Majority press office said it’s so the committee can hear from a different group of Alaskans, specifically Alaska Native regional corporations, which are slated to testify on the bill.
The public will also have a chance to weigh in during the 9:00 am hearing.
Lawmakers are then expected to fly back to Juneau in time for Sen. Mark Begich’s address to the legislature Tuesday morning.
