A Dillingham man, who is a plaintiff in a lawsuit involving Alaska's redistricting plan, has withdrawn his candidacy for a state House seat.

The state Division of Elections website shows Russell S. Nelson withdrew from the district 36 race.

Nelson is one of several plaintiffs who have sued to keep the state from implementing a new redistricting plan for this year's elections until that plan receives preclearance from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The plan has gotten the OK from the Alaska Supreme Court for use for the 2012 races but still must pass muster with Justice.
