JUNEAU, Alaska—
U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski is proposing to have the environmental and economic impacts of genetically modified fish studied before the fish are approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.Her office says the FDA is looking at any scientific and biological risks associated with genetically modified salmon but isn't required to look at how any fish escaping into the ocean could impact the seafood industry.
Sen. Mark Begich has also signed onto the proposal.
