Alaska's unemployment rate fell to its lowest level in nearly four years, hitting a preliminary 6.8 percent in November.
That compares to a seasonally adjusted rate of 7.1 percent in October and 7.4 percent in November 2011.
The last time unemployment stood at 6.8 percent in Alaska was December 2008.
Nationally, unemployment stood at 7.7 percent last month.
Alaska began 2012 with unemployment at 7.2 percent. The rate fell to 6.9 percent in April and hit as high as 7.7 percent in August before steadily declining.
The state labor department says the recent declines have brought Alaska's unemployment rate to slightly lower than the state's 10-year average.
