ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
On Monday, two Alaska-based airmen received the prestigious Bronze Star Meal at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.Colonel Brian Duffy, JBER’s 673d Air Base Wing Commander, presented the medals, which recognizes meritorious service, to Master Sergeant Gerald Davis and Staff Sergeant Wesley Kory.
“Bronze star medals are not things that are thrown around very easily, they come as a result of extreme effort on the behalf of each service members through very difficult conditions,” Col. Duffy said.
The explosive ordinance disposal specialists have cleared thousands of pounds of explosives and helped keep thousands of miles of supply routes safe in Afghanistan.
They use infrared-equipped robots and Kevlar enforced personal protective suits to aide in the removal of explosives.
“Whether it's the civilians we're on the ground with or it's the guys that are in the trucks doing the route clearances, I mean, either way we try to, it's about the guy next to ya, you know,” Sgt. Wesley Kory, Explosive Ordinance Disposal Craftsmen, said. “It's about keeping those guys safe and out of trouble.”
