A soldier based at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson was killed in Afghanistan Friday evening Alaska time, which was Saturday morning in Afghanistan.
Forty-year-old Capt. Charles E. Ridgley, of Aberdeen, Md., was killed when a suicide bomber dressed as an Afghanistan National Army soldier detonated explosives at a military base in the eastern province of Nangarhar, Afghanistan.
Ridgley was assigned to the 17th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 3rd Manuever Enhancement Brigade at JBER. He joined the Army in 1990.
His next of kin have been notified.
