A Fort Wainwright soldier was killed by an improvised explosive device Thursday evening in the city of Shah Joy in Afghanistan while conducting a mounted patrol in a Stryker vehicle, according to a release fromU.S. ArmyAlaska.

Seven other soldiers from the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division were wounded in the same incident.

The 4,000-soldier brigade began deploying to Afghanistan in mid-April for a one-year tour. Three other Strykers were killed last month.

The soldier's name has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
