On Saturday, dozens of people came to the Fort Richardson National Cemetery to participate in a wreath-laying salute to recognize the courage and sacrifices of our veterans.
It's part of a nationwide initiative called “Wreaths Across America,” which partners with the Civil Air Patrol.
More than fifty people showed up today for Alaska's fifth year of the ceremony. They helped place the holiday wreaths on about 700 headstones. But, there are currently more than 4,000 at the Fort Richardson National Cemetery and the goal is to have a wreath for each donated headstone. Sitka also participated in the effort.
