ANCHORAGE, Alaska—
A Fort Wainwright soldier was killed Wednesday morning and two others were injured when their Stryker personnel carrier hit an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan’s Kandahar Province.U.S. Army Alaska officials say Pvt. Ryan Jeffrey Larson, 19, of Friendship, Wis., who was killed in the blast during a mounted patrol at 9:35 a.m. Afghanistan time, entered the Army in June 2010 and arrived at Fort Wainwright last October.
Larson and the two wounded soldiers were assigned to Fort Wainwright’s 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division. The brigade’s 4,000 soldiers were deployed to Afghanistan in April.
