Army officials say in a release that Maj. Gen. Michael X. Garrett will take command during a ceremony Thursday at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
Garrett had previously served in Alaska as the first commander of the newly formed 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division, which he led in its initial combat deployment from February 2006 to July 2008.
Garrett will replace Maj. Gen. Raymond P. Palumbo, who is scheduled to be promoted to lieutenant general. Palumbo is expected to move to the Pentagon, where he will serve as deputy undersecretary of defense (intelligence) for joint coalition and warfighter support.
Palumbo has been the commander ofU.S. ArmyAlaska since July 2010.
