A 20-year-old Anchorage man was arrested by local police Friday in a Midtown hit-and-run collision with a pedestrian last month that left a man severely injured.

APD spokesperson Anita Shell says Luke M. Jerde has been charged with first-degree assault, failure to render aid, reckless driving, tampering with physical evidence and driving without insurance.

Police believe Jerde was at the wheel of a red Pontiac Fiero that struck 27-year-old Zachary Mohs at the intersection of Arctic Boulevard and Tudor Road, shortly after 8 p.m. on the evening of Sept. 20.

Mohs, who suffered head injuries and lost a leg after the crash, remains in a local hospital.

Police found the Fiero abandoned two days after the crash, in a wooded area near 45th Avenue and Northwood Drive. According to Shell, Jerde was not the registered owner of the vehicle, but was in the process of purchasing it at the time of the crash.

Jerde is being held at the Anchorage Jail on $3,000 bail, with a third-party custodian required for release.
