An Anchorage man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney Karen Loeffler's office.

65-year-old Scott Hunter Sauer received his sentence Friday for having over 5-thousand images and videos of child pornography.

The investigation found that he had used computers at his home and workplace to trade on the Internet that Assistant U.S. Attorney Audrey J. Renschen described as “material that portrays sadistic or masochistic conduct or other depictions of violence.”

After serving his time, Sauer will spend 20 years of supervised release and received sex offender assessment and treat, along with registering as a sex offender.

The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat child sexual exploitation.
