The Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center has opened its doors in Midtown, boasting a brand-new building as well as state-of-the-art equipment.

The Midtown center at 4951 Business Blvd., near the intersection of International Airport Road and C Street, will serve people with and without insurance.

Its opening, weeks after the closure of the center's old location in Fairview, can’t happen fast enough for Anchorage’s estimated uninsured population of 40,000 to 50,000 people.

Center staff, including five dentists and 15 health care providers, expect to serve from 15,000 to 19,000 patients. The new facility is one of only three in Anchorage to accept Medicare patients, prompting seniors to hold a Monday meeting on local access to Medicare services.

A grand-opening ceremony will be held at the center on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
