Anchorage Police Chief Mark Mew has called a news conference Wednesday to discuss an officer-involved shooting death.

The news conference is planned for 2 p.m. at police headquarters.

Officer Boaz Gionson drew his service weapon and fatally shot 26-year-old Shane Tasi on June 9. Gionson has been on the force since 2007.

Police said the officer fired at Tasi after he approached him aggressively with a stick and refused repeated commands to put it down.

The confrontation began after police responded to reports that the man had yelled at passing cars and attacked a dog with the stick.
The shooting is under investigation.
