The Municipality of Anchorage announced settlements Tuesday totalingmore than $5.5 million with 11 women, who had filed civil lawsuits against the city over sexual assaults by former APD officer Anthony Rollins.
Rollins was convicted on 18 of 20 counts in February 2011 of abusing his authority to commit a string of sexual assaults against five women, many of which took place at the department’s now-closed Mountain View substation.
At an April 2012 sentencing hearing where Rollins received a total of 87 years in prison, victims and APD leaders both condemned his actions as deeply offensive and harmful to the public trust. Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan announced a call that week for an independent investigation of department procedures after the scandal, with results expected in August.
Tuesday’s press release included copies of the individual settlement agreements with victims’ names redacted, but the amounts and terms of the settlements -- totaling some $5,543,250 -- listed. The lump-sum payments range from $52,500 to $1.7 million, with several women receiving additional monthly payments of $700 to $1,368.51 for life.
