Anchorage police and firefighters responded Wednesday evening to a natural gas leak, which was subsequently secured at an Enstar facility adjacent to a Municipal Light and Power plant off the Glenn Highway near Muldoon.
AFD dispatchers say they were notified by Enstar at about 6:45 p.m. that the company had secured a gas leak in a pressure reduction facility at its Plant 2, near ML&P’s Plant 1. No flames were reported in the area.
According to APD spokesperson Anita Shell, police closed a frontage road near the facility at AFD's request.
ML&P spokesperson Ronnie Dent says non-essential Enstar personnel were evacuated from Plant 2, and that the leak appeared to be related to power outages following Tuesday night's powerful windstorm.
This is a developing story. Please check KTUU.com and the Channel 2 newscasts for updates.
Editor's note: An initial reference to the natural gas leak occurring at ML&P's Plant 1 has been corrected, after clarification that the leak occurred at an Enstar facility.
