APD Investigating Human Remains Found in South Anchorage (October 10, 2012)

Anchorage police are investigating human remains discovered Wednesday morning in South Anchorage.

APD spokesperson Lt. Dave Parker says the remains were found near the intersection of Quinhagak Street and Dowling Road, in a slightly wooded area within 50 feet of Dowling.

According to police, a man who had dropped his car off at a nearby auto repair shop on Dowling was walking through the area, looking for a trail back to his house, when he made the discovery at about 11 a.m. He then flagged down an off-duty police officer to mention the remains' location.

APD's evidence collection unit was expected to arrive on the scene Wednesday afternoon.

No details were immediately available on the gender or identity of the remains, or how long they had been there.
