The Army is investigating the shooting death of a Stryker soldier in Afghanistan.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says the Army is looking into the death of Danny Chen, a 19-year-old private from New York who was killed on Oct. 3 in a noncombat-related death.

Chris Grey, a spokesman for the military Criminal Investigation Command in Quantico, Va., said Wednesday Chen died from a gunshot wound to the head. His body was found in a guard tower.

The Army said Chen was a member of the 3rd Battalion, 21st Infantry Regiment, part of the 4,000 member 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division.

The Stryker soldiers left Fairbanks in April for a one year deployment.
