The Richardson Highway was closed from Mile 12 to Mile 46 due to an avalanche Friday morning, according to the state Department of Transportation.
In the last 24 hours, the area has received more than 30 inches of snow and high wind.
Two slides occurred at Mile 30 and Mile 40 but crews aren't sure when they happened, according to DOT spokesperson Meadow Bailey. The Mile 30 slide has covered about 600 feet of the highway about four feet deep in snow.
Bailey says there are no reports of injuries. Crews are working to clear both slides, but the earliest the highway will be open is Friday evening.
