The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center held a memorial Tuesday night for Shaguyik, or “Shaggy.”

She's the 2-year-old bear that escaped her enclosure at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center and was found shot to death in Portage last week.

Some of Shaggy's cremated remains were spread Wednesday in the enclosure she shared with another cub that also was orphaned on Kodiak Island almost two years ago. Both were placed at the center. The rest of Shaggy's remains will be spread on Kodiak.

Both bears were to be placed in Sweden but Shaggy escaped in early April. She escaped on the same day her companion made the trip to what was to be their new home.

Shaggy was found dead directly across the Seward Highway from the center.
