A Bethel man sentenced to 20 years in prison for manslaughter in state court has been sentenced to serve a 15-year federal sentence for being a felon in possession of firearms.

U.S. Attorney Karen Loeffler says the federal sentence for Freddie Abraham will run concurrent with the state sentence.

Prosecutors say Abraham shot a man inside his Bethel apartment on Dec. 30, 2010, and said he did so because the victim had slapped a woman.

Bethel police recovered the weapon used in the shooting and two other guns in Abraham's home.

Federal prosecutors say Abraham was subject to an enhanced sentence, including a mandatory minimum of 15 years, because of three prior felony convictions.
