SOLDOTNA, Alaska—
The Board of Fish has decided to appoint a task force to look at Cook Inlet king salmon runs.
KSRM-AM says the decision to address the issue at the coming spring meeting was made at a two-day work session in Anchorage. It comes after a season in which setnetters were largely shut out even though there was an abundance of Kenai River reds.
The Kenai River Sportfishing Association is looking for changes in the king salmon management plan. The Alaska Dept. of Fish and Game also is seeking to amend management plans to reflect new escapement goals for the Kenai and Kasilof rivers.
The task force will meet in mid-November and have results to submit to the Board of Fish in January, 2013.
