A boat slid off a trailer in Valdez Friday afternoon, severely injuring a man who was pinned beneath it according to local firefighters.

Valdez Fire Chief George Keeney says firefighters responded at about 3:40 p.m. to the local boat yard, where the incident occurred.

A photo of the scene sent to Channel 2 by Roy Hansen shows medics kneeling next to a stretcher beside the boat as bystanders watch.

According to Keeney the man wasn’t alone, with a partner and two nurses who happened to be in the area immediately responding to assist him.

"So far, he's one lucky guy," Keeney said.

The man was stabilized in Valdez, but was subsequently medevaced to Anchorage.
