The head of the Coast Guard's prevention program in the Alaska district has retired.
The Juneau Empire (http://is.gd/yexdPW) says Capt. Adam J. Shaw's retirement follows 25 years of service, eight of them in Alaska.
Coast Guard officials say Shaw was honored at a retirement ceremony Thursday at the Juneau Arts & Culture Center.
The prevention division is responsible for boating safety.
The office conducts inspections on recreational and commercial vessels, as well as cruise ships.
The incoming prevention-division chief will be Cmdr. Matt Jones, the current deputy commander of Sector Juneau.
Until Jones begins his new position, Deputy Prevention Chief Cmdr. Patrick Ropp will serve as the acting prevention chief.
