JUNEAU, Alaska—
A consultant to the Alaska Legislature says Gov. Sean Parnell is taking the wrong approach to natural gas taxes.Pedro van Meurs told reporters Parnell's approach excludes competitors to the North Slope's three major players.
Parnell has said he doesn't want to address gas taxes until there is a defined natural gas pipeline project. He has set a timeline for the majors -- Exxon Mobil Corp., BP and ConocoPhillips -- to align behind a project.
Van Meurs says Parnell's approach is like going to a car dealer and saying you're only going to buy a car there. He questions how good a deal one would get that way.
Van Meurs is testifying before Senate committees this week on Alaska's oil tax system.
