Canada Mounties arrested an Anchorage man Tuesday morning after he allegedly eluded the Royal Canadian Mounted Police after being held in custody by custom agents.
29-year-old Jason Echeverri tried to enter Canada at the Alcan Port of Entry and Canadian custom agents discovered that Echeverri has a felony theft probation and was not allowed to leave Alaska, according to an Alaska State Troopers dispatch.
Custom agents assisted Echeverri from the restroom when he “overpowered them and escaped.” Troopers said he found his keys to his car and tried to flee into Canada.
He led the Mounties on a pursuit and was eventually stopped by force near Destruction Bay. He was arrested and taken into custody.
Echeverri faces charges in Canada as U.S. charges of felony escape, resisting arrest, and assault on peace officers.
