Anchorage police have taken a man into custody suspected of trying to break into a Muldoon home Tuesday morning, following an extensive East Anchorage search.
APD spokesperson Lt. Dave Parker says the man was tracked down at about 1:30 p.m., roughly a mile and a half up Arctic Valley Road. Many officers were deployed in the area, and an Alaska State Troopers helicopter was also committted to the search.
"They were scheduled for a training mission, so they went ahead and used this as training as well," Parker said.
The search began at about 9:40 a.m. when the man was seen in the back yard of a house on Connie Court, in a residential area east of Muldoon Road.
After he was spotted, police say the man ran toward Muldoon Elementary School. The Anchorage School Department says students were asked to stay inside while K-9 units arrived to track the man, but the school is not on lockdown or stay-put modes.
