Bonnie Craig's Boyfriend Testifies in Dion Murder Trial

Bonnie Craig's boyfriend testified Thursday at the trial of her alleged killer, Kenneth Dion, that they were in love when she was raped and murdered in September 1994.

The boyfriend, Cameron Miyasaki, told the jury the two wore promise rings to show everyone they were exclusive. When Miyasaki left for college the summer before Craig's death, he said she had made plans to move to California to be with him.

Defense attorney Andrew Lambert claims Craig was having a secret love affair with Dion. He says the sex before her death was consensual, and her fatal fall from a cliff at McHugh Creek was an accident.

Craig's murder was a long-running Anchorage cold case until 2007, when a national criminal database identified Dion -- already in prison for a series of armed robberies in New Hampshire -- as a match for DNA evidence found on her body.

In opening statements at trial this week, prosecutor Paul Miovas said the number of injuries found on Craig’s body suggested she was beaten before she fell, while Lambert said nobody can place Dion at McHugh Creek.
