The Anchorage Police Department released the names of the two victims in the double homicide on Irwin Street on Wednesday. Melvin Kosbruk, 37, and 67-year-old Gary Erwin were found murdered in their apartment on Sunday.
On Wednesday, The Irwin Street Multiplex was a snowy scene. The only hint of what transpired over the weekend was the padlock on Apt. #3, which was put there by the Anchorage Police Department.
Kosbruk's mother, Annie Wieskamp, who lives a couple of blocks away from where her son was found dead, said she knew something was wrong when she hadn't heard from her son for three days.
"On the 10th was the last time I talked to him," Wieskamp said. "He called me in the evening and said I'm not feeling well and I'm going to bed. That didn't seem right cause normally when he called me, he was going to bed he told me to have a good night and just text him in the morning."
Kosbruk and Erwin lived together for years. When Kosbruk was younger, he lived right across the street from Erwin. Wieskamp said the two had special relationship that went beyond just roommmates.
"Gary treated him like he was his own son," Wieskamp said. "He spoiled my son a lot. Melvin wanted something, Gary got it for him. He'd let him hold off on some of the things for a couple of days but in the end he'd give in. He pretty much raised him."
